“Thank you to everyone who has entrusted me to serve as your board president going into 2023. My goals as president are simple and are reflected in my theme for 2023, "Believe in the Brand." Being a realtor means we are held to a high standard, and I want us to remember what that "R" stands for. I have three main goals for 2023:
Let’s get back to basics:
Whether it has been hurricanes, COVID, or market changes, we have been through a lot of obstacles in the past couple of years and have had to make many adjustments. During this time, it became very easy for us to pick up bad habits or forget some parts of what makes us professionals. Let's practice as if we just started anew in the industry. Let's revisit what it means to be a realtor by following each step in the transaction and dotting our "i's" and crossing our "t's" in our day-to-day business.
Focus on Professionalism & Education:
Many of us have been in the industry for a long time, and a lot has changed within the last 5, 10, 20 years. Just because some of us have been here for a while doesn't mean we know everything there is to know. Rules change often, as do our forms and the transaction processes. Let's make sure we are keeping up to date and keeping ourselves educated through many of the BER classes, designations, and certifications. It's proven statistically that realtors who attain designations earn more on average than those who do not.
Let’s Focus on Each Other:
This industry can be very unforgiving. The odds are that most agents won't make it past the first 3 years, and I want to change that. Look around, there is plenty of business for all of us. Let's help our new peers and find mentoring opportunities to get them into our industry. Not only will you brush up on your skills, you will help change another member's life and help them bridge the confusing process of becoming a realtor. Grab someone by the arm and invite them to our education and event opportunities. The more a new agent gets involved, the better their chances of being successful in this industry. Help mold the next generation of BER members.
I know through the effort of our board, committee members, and staff, we can achieve these goals and more in my year as president. I will always advocate for every member to take that first step and get involved, just as I did years ago. I have gained so much value and satisfaction from the entire process and urge you to follow in my footsteps. If you want to know how to get started, look no further than signing up for the Leadership Academy in 2023!“
I want to take a moment to thank a few people who have helped me in my leadership journey. My husband Terry, and my son Marcus, without your love, support, and encouragement, I don't know where I would be. To all my mentors along the way, who have challenged me to keep striving for more, I thank you. My local real estate family, you inspire me daily to be better and do better, I love you all. Finally, Meighan Harris, thank you for encouraging me to run the leadership ladder one more time. You always continue to amaze me in all you do.
